Mango Salsa

Today is … you guessed it:

Mango Salsa | Making Life Sweet
Cinco De Mayo
! Although it is not inherently an American holiday, it seems almost un-American not to celebrate this special day. Kind of like how we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Are we all Irish? No! But we can all appreciate the Irish culture, especially when it comes to food and drink.

The same is true for Cinco De Mayo. According to the History Channel, although Cinco De Mayo is “a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States [it] has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.”

Today my work will be celebrating with a rooftop party at the end of the day, complete with drinks, guacamole, chips, beans and this Mango Salsa. What will YOU be doing to celebrate?Read More

Greek Tuna Salad

Tuna salad was a staple in my childhood home.

Greek Tuna Salad | Making Life Sweet
Not for the kids, but for my dad. My sister and I didn’t want anything to do with tuna let alone tuna salad growing up. We preferred mom’s egg salad and turned our noses up when we saw tuna cans in the pantry.Read More

April 27, 2015 • 3 Comments

If you’re like me, then you cannot go a day without eating chocolate in some way, shape or form.

Chocolate Peanut Butter + Banana Smoothie | Making Life SweetBelieve me I’ve tried and the result is usually an even stronger craving. Not that there is anything wrong with eating a little bit of chocolate everyday. In fact, research is revealing that a little everyday can do wonders for your health! (Click here for 11 reasons why chocolate is good for your health.)

This healthy chocolate peanut butter + banana smoothies are a great way to get all of the benefits and taste of chocolate into your body while satisfying any craving.

Chocolate Peanut Butter + Banana Smoothie | Making Life SweetPerhaps the best part about this smoothie is the fact that I was able to get my husband to finally eat (well, technically drink) raw kale. It tasted so good, he didn’t even bother asking me what the green things were in it until it was all gone!Read More

Thai Salmon Burgers with Slaw + Sriracha Mayo

April 20, 2015 • 2 Comments

You can learn to love (or at least appreciate) a lot of things.

Thai Salmon Burgers | Making Life SweetLike vegetables or exercising, for example. You may not be a person who naturally gravitates toward either, but with a little time and effort you can grow to appreciate what the latter two things can do for your body. I daresay you can even learn to appreciate cleaning, for in the end it yields a better end result.

Blueberries + Cream Oatmeal

April 15, 2015 • 2 Comments

Say what you will, but oatmeal doesn’t have to be bland or boring.

blueberries and cream oatmeal | making life sweet

Unless you eat it plain, I suppose. But that’s no fun, now is it? No. There is a better way to eat oatmeal and it starts with adding fresh, sweet and tangy ingredients.

I love oatmeal because there are so many possibilities and flavors you can combine with it. Two of my go-to oatmeal combinations are peanut butter banana and today’s recipe: blueberries, maple syrup, almonds and cream.Read More

Blackberry Pistachio Walnut Challah Bread

April 13, 2015 • 8 Comments

Growing up I had only tasted challah once — at a friend’s house.

blackberry pistachio walnut challah bread | Making Life Sweet15 years went by until I had my next taste and made my first homemade challah loaf. I might be a baker, but the truth is I haven’t always been accustomed to working with dough. In fact when I first began experimenting with cooking and baking, the thought of making even pizza dough made me nervous. I was afraid that I would mess it up — that I would fail.Read More
